Our festival always begins and ends with a bang. As we have many filmmakers attending from Australia and abroad our guestlist is extensive so tickets to the public are limited. Don't be disappointed - book your tickets early by emailing thecrew@bbff.com.au

BAS! Beyond the Red Light
WORLD PREMIERE

A human story about the business of child trafficking from former Byron Shire resident Wendy Champagne.

Unorthodox, uplifting and unforgettable, the film paints a bold portrait of victims, perpetrators and rescuers. It reveals a world of contrasts: from remote Himalayan villages to the glare of Mumbai's red light district; from the sad and desperate reality of child exploitation, to a place where the resilience of youth can transform the worst of all possible experiences into a celebration.

Best Film & Best Documentary Nominee

Join us upstairs afterwards in the Coopers Verandah Bar to celebrate the grand opening of the 4th Byron Bay International Film Festival and to pay homage to 100 years of cinema in Byron Bay the theme for the evening is Black & White.

MY SUICIDE
AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE

A true highlight of the festival is the Australian Premiere of My Suicide. After having its World Premiere at Berlin and its American Premiere at SXSW My Suicide is having its Australian Premiere at the Byron Bay International Film Festival.

Starring Gabriel Sunday, Brooke Nevin, David Carradine, Mariel Hemingway and Joe Mantegna MY SUICIDE is a dark, romantic comedy about Archie Williams, an isolated high school teen, who becomes the most popular kid in the school when he announces he's going to kill himself on camera for his final video class project.

Is Archie truly suicidal? Or is he like Harold in Harold & Maude, merely fascinated with death, seeking attention, and searching for some higher reality and love?
