The story of two September 11’s -- two cities and a tragedy of two times. The terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City scarred the trust of the American people. On the same date, 28 years before, the US-supported military overthrow of Chilean President Salvador Allende ushered in 17 years of autocratic rule under dictator Augusto Pinochet, leaving more than 3,000 dead and countless victims of torture. While many would believe that the tragedies of September 11, 1973, and 2001 have no connection, 9-11/9-11 weaves them together to tell story of love, hope, family, power, and loss.

The events are tied -by time, people, places, and tragedy. Two young lovers, following their hearts, cannot escape the path of destruction, rage and regret propelled by a dictator in Chile and powerful leaders in the United States. In this dark animated short film, conceptual artist Mel Chin creates a tale of two cities - a tragedy of two times -- a story of love wrecked by overt and covert manipulations of power. 9-11/9-11 has been produced as part of a global dialogue about the human impact of these collective traumas.  The film was animated in pencil by the Chilean artists of PlanoVisual Estudio de Animación. The voice cast includes American actress Lili Taylor and Chilean satirist Palta Melendez.

When terrorists shattered their lives, Susan Retik and Patti Quigley  set off on an extraordinary journey to rebuild themselves and the lives of women half a world away...  After the two 9/11 widows connect, rather than turning inwards, grief compels them to focus on the country where the terrorists who took their husbands lives were trained: Afghanistan. Over the course of two years, as they cope with loss and struggle to raise their families as single mothers, they dedicate themselves to empowering Afghan widows whose lives have been ravaged by decades of war, poverty and oppression. Factors they consider to be the root causes of terrorism. Making a courageous journey from their comfortable neighbourhoods to the most desperate Afghan villages, they discover an unlikely kinship with widows halfway around the world, and a profound way to move beyond tragedy. Theirs is a journey of personal strength and international reconciliation, and a testament to the vision that peace can be forged - one woman at a time.
