Primary School Program | Shorts With Tall Orders

Shorts with Tall Orders is a short film package curated for primary school audiences in the Northern Rivers of NSW which consists of Australian and International stories intended to connect with younger audiences through inspiring, and sometimes funny, narrative and documentary filmmaking.

This curation was constructed by Jasper Caverly, an emerging filmmaker from Arakwal Country, with the intent to showcase the many possibilities of storytelling within the moving image medium. The Shorts with Tall Orders package is a balanced selection of films that aim for wonder, and sometimes laughs, but always try to make sure audiences take home a memorable cinematic experience with them.

  • BIRD DRONE

    Radheya Jegatheva

    A lonely seagull looking for love struggles to accept that his newfound object of affection is a human-operated drone with a limited battery life.

    Radheya Jegatheva’s animations, live action narratives and documentaries have been selected to 29 Academy Award Qualifying Festivals. He has spoken to thousands of school students over the years with an aim to encourage young people about being involved in the arts, and his works have been used as an educational tool in schools and universities around the world.

    Celia Jaspers

    After a run-in with his slimy deputy, the Prime Minister's young daughter is shocked to find a magical creature living in Parliament under her Dad’s desk!

    Celia Jaspers is a prolific content creator with over 30 years experience in the industry. She has been directing since she was 19 years old, amassing hundreds of hours of content from TV, documentary, factual and narrative. Celia is passionate about heartfelt, kids and family content that both young and old can enjoy co-viewing together.

    Salman Alam Khan

    A young teenager hides a mysterious secret in their bathroom: invisible to everyone else but hidden nonetheless .

    Salman Alam Khan is known by his profound passion for exploring cultural diversity, human rights, and social issues through both fiction and documentary film. Salman earned his degree in Media studies from the University of the Punjab (Pakistan) and has since earned accolades and awards at various film festivals around the world.

    Cameron Mitchell

    Adapting to her new home, Hanh mistakes the cunningness of her new “friends” as an act of kindness, navigating this betrayal through the loving and tender guide of her family.

    Cameron is a Swinburne University Film & TV graduate, who possesses a love for visual based storytelling and flair. He has been the predominant director of photography for OneHouse projects across short films, music videos and corporate video. Porcelain is his directorial debut.

  • NATALYA DIEHM: ROAD TO RECOVERY

    Elliott Sauvage

    Australian BMX-rider, Natalya Diehm, details the trials of a journey toward recovery after her 5th ACL rupture at the Tokyo Olympics.

    Elliot Sauvage is an filmmaker and photographer from Brisbane. He has combined his passion for music with his love for filmmaking, spending the last couple of years directing music videos as well as corporate, fashion and lifestyle projects.

  • GHOST ROOMMATE

    Kaia Walton

    A young social media addict stumbles upon a miraculously affordable rental house where he is confronted with an unexpected twist – his new roommate is none other than a lively ghost named Winston.

    Kaia Walton in a multidisciplinary artist from the Northern Rivers whose film-practice draws inspiration from the cinematic brilliance of Taika Waititi. He has been cast in productions such as Young Rock (2021), Elvis (2022) and Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019). Kaia was just seventeen years-old when he wrote and directed Ghost Roomate.

    Robert Sherwood & Toby Finlayson

    Original Nations culture is facilitated in an important, inter-generational conversation about social and emotional well-being for future generations of the Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr communities of South West Rocks, in the mid North Coast of NSW.

    Produced by Desert Pea Media, a cross-cultural, charitable organisation sharing stories as means of ‘Reconciliation in Action’: responding to the generations of disadvantage faced every day by Australian Original Nations people.

    Izzy Rowland

    A skater trying to find his place in the world is unsettled by the treatment of sea creatures in this unexpected and heartwarming ode to kinship.

    Izzy Rowland is Northern Rivers-born, multidisciplinary artist currently whose films explore hyperbolic characters’ inner-conflict with their sense of self and where they belong. She also records music under the alias Izzy Voxx and plays in the psych-rock band King Coleus.

  • COMMANDER SAM

    Liam Fourace

    Sam spends the night in a spaceship forged from her father’s work van while he undertakes nightshifts on a construction site. But when take-off becomes more than just pretend, the young astronauts flightpath could put her in real danger.

    Liam is an emerging filmmaker based in Naarm/Melbourne. He is focused on crafting films that not only entertain but hold valuable narratives to them. Commander Sam returns to Byron Bay International Film Festival after screening in 2019, looking to inspire new audiences.

    Hadley Perkins

    Murphy is on an open road adventure with his love, Murphette, when he finds himself drawn into an infinite pursuit in order to fix his broken down bus. The road is paved, the future is in sight and it’s a race to the finish line.

    Hadley Perkins is a social entrepreneur, writer, artist and director investigating the unfolding mystery of the nature of things. Filmmaking is relatively new for Hadley, however, it amalgamates his variety of experiences, skills and passions into the ultimate creative medium.
