Where Are They Now?

This impact study traces the career paths of just some of BBFF’s Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year winners and nominees from 2007 onward, documenting how early recognition through the festival has translated into sustained careers across film, television, documentary, animation, immersive media and commercial production.

Drawing on verified professional credits and year-by-year alumni outcomes, it finds that more than 80% of nominees from the 2007–2022 cohorts remain active in the screen sector, with alumni progressing to work recognised by Sundance, Berlinale, SXSW, Tribeca, the AACTAs and the Emmys, as well as major productions for Netflix, Disney+, ABC, SBS and international production houses. The study demonstrates BBFF’s long-term role in identifying emerging talent early and helping establish a pathway from first recognition to professional screen careers.
