7 MIN | 2024 | DIRECTOR: ANNA SAMO | PRODUCER: TOM BERGMANN | GERMANY | BYRON PREMIERE
An artist insists on playing despite the world's disasters.
The Wild-Tempered Clavier was created during the pandemic, when toilet paper became both scarce and strangely symbolic. Animator Anna Samo turned painted rolls of toilet paper into a canvas, treating them like fragile film stock and combining them with Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier. Working without storyboards or the safety of an “undo” button, they embraced uncertainty and chance, allowing mistakes to shape the animation. The result is a film that confronts chaos, clings to beauty, and reflects the experience of making art in unsettled times.
