500 Days in the Wild follows award-winning filmmaker Dianne Whelan on an extraordinary six-year, 24,000 km odyssey across Canada’s land and water trails — hiking, paddling, biking, snowshoeing, and skiing from sea to sea to sea. In her 50s and not an extreme athlete, Whelan braved storms, floods, fire, and solitude, transforming what began as a solitary quest into a deeply human journey. Along the way she encountered Indigenous wisdom, unexpected kindness, and a renewed connection to the land. By journey’s end she had not only crossed a country but rediscovered hope, found love, and gained a profound passion to share the lessons nature had gifted her.
