SEEDS OF INSPIRATION:

CHRONICLES OF HOPE & CHANGE

OFFICIAL SELECTION | SHORT DOC SESSION

This special session at BBFF curates a trio of films that resonate with themes of connection, rejuvenation, and the profound impact of nature on our lives. It’s a cinematic journey that shines a spotlight on the resilience of the human spirit and the undying bond we share with Mother Earth.

Refugia, directed by Liana Cornell, is a poignant exploration of pockets of refuge, where life endures against all odds. With breathtaking visuals and an intimate narrative, Liana Cornell paints a vivid picture of the unsung heroes, passionate communities, and diligent companies that stand as guardians of these natural sanctuaries. Through the lens of the five elemental forces – earth, air, fire, water, spirit – this film is a beautiful reminder that change begins with us. We are the hope, the solution, and the stewards of nature.

As mental health concerns and chronic illnesses rise, we're becoming increasingly detached from the natural world.Endre Kvia’s Mother Earth Educators highlights the work of Nadia Pietramale de Souza and the impact of Mullumbimby’s Community Garden as we witness a group of children reconnecting with nature, forging bonds, understanding their roles in the larger ecosystem, and experiencing the magic of hands-on learning. A testament to the transformative power of returning to our roots.

Lastly, Between Earth & Sky showcases the remarkable journey of ecologist Nalini Nadkarni. Having devoted her life to understanding the regrowth of rainforests post-disturbance, a personal accident compels her to introspect, applying her research insights to her own life and recovery. As she navigates this challenging terrain, Nadkarni offers an evocative tale of resilience, reinvention, and the unbreakable spirit of a scientist.
