Volunteers are the backbone of the Byron Bay International Film Festival.

Our team is boosted by volunteers and interns from all walks of life who come together to share their experience, energy and/or skills and help us build one of Australia’s favourite film festivals.

Their ambition helps us create a fascinating event each year, and without their passion and dedication we would not be able to bring talented filmmakers and an open, intelligent audience together.

What our Volunteers Say

  • Poppy Walker (Schools Program Manager)

“I loved working with BBFF. It’s such an energetic, interesting and dynamic team, and so rewarding to all work together to bring the festival to our town.”

  • Jemima Dunlop (Production Management)

“Volunteering to be a part of the BBFF team was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I made since moving to Byron. Many of my close friends today I met while we were volunteering for the festival. As a newcomer to the area it was a terrific way to get to know the community, local media and make connections that often led to new work opportunities. The buzz around festival time is infectious – everyone is busy, but it’s so much fun!”

  • Fiona (Classifications)

“Volunteering with BBFF was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I went in thinking it might be a couple of hours’ work here and there. It turned out to be a lot more than that but I think you get out what you put in. Having the responsibility for an entire task, and knowing that the directors are really trusting you to get it done correctly and on time meant that I was putting in my best effort. Seeing a huge local event like this come together and knowing that you really played a large role was amazing.”

  • James (Bar)

“Volunteering at the Byron bay Film Festival is a great opportunity to get behind the scenes and gain valuable experience in the film and events industry. BBFF relies heavily on volunteers to make it the internationally renowned festival that it is, so I really encourage you to come along and be a part of the magic. Great people, awesome films and fun times guaranteed.”

“Interning with BBFF has given me the opportunity to see more of the industry than what I learnt in the classroom. I have developed many skills and have a greater idea of what to expect in the future. I truly enjoyed doing what I had been learning. It was an unforgettable experience. The event amazed me that so many people joined even during the pandemic.”
