When Sonja (Olivia Hargroder), 23, loses her mother without warning, the only steady presence left in her life is her grandmother, Doris. But Doris's idea of stability means dismantling everything Sonja has built - her home, her independence, and her future - in favour of a life Doris believes will keep her safe.
For Sonja, who lives with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and has spent her life fighting to be underestimated by no one, Doris' plan feels less like protection and more like erasure. Caught between them is Sonja's younger sister Emma, forced into a role she never asked for. Then, at their mother's funeral, Sonja meets Hakim, who introduces her to Krump - a raw, physical form of dance that becomes her outlet, her defiance, and eventually, her power.
Directed by Genevieve Clay-Smith, BOSS CAT is a vibrant, big-hearted Australian dramedy about independence, family and self-determination, anchored by a fearless lead performance.
