When a suitcase of intimate, handwritten letters from the 1960s and ’70s is unearthed, they reveal the hidden life of Geraldine “Miss” Flower, an Australian woman whose extraordinary spirit and loves left an indelible mark on all who knew her. These letters, brimming with desire, longing, and fierce honesty, inspired a filmmaker to imagine Miss Flower not only as a woman but as a wine - an intoxicating force of nature whose life becomes the raw material for storytelling.
The Extraordinary Miss Flower reimagines Geraldine’s story through a bold, hybrid work that blurs the boundaries of film, theatre, and dreamscape. Acclaimed Icelandic singer-songwriter Emilíana Torrini, moved by the discovery, returned to the studio to record a haunting new album of songs woven through the film, transforming the letters into music that gives voice to Geraldine’s passions.
Directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (20,000 Days on Earth), and featuring performances from Nick Cave, Richard Ayoade, Alice Lowe, and Angus Sampson, this inventive work layers biography and fantasy, reality and imagination. The result is a fevered meditation on love, memory, and art itself - a celebration of a woman who might otherwise have remained lost to time, now immortalised in sound and vision.
