THE OLIGARCH AND THE ART DEALER is a thrilling exploration of one of the most sensational and mysterious events to ever hit the art world: the bitter fight between Yves Bouvier and Dmitry Rybolovlev that followed accusations of a billion-dollar swindle.
Spanning over two decades, multiple countries, and dozens of the world’s greatest art masterpieces - including the legendary Salvator Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci - the series takes viewers into the hidden world of some of the richest and most powerful people in modern society. Bouvier - a Swiss businessman known as the “freeport king” for his network of freeports in which the ultra-rich can store their possessions away from the public eye, meets Rybolovlev, a Russian oligarch who made his fortune after the fall of the Soviet Union. Through their collaboration they build one of the greatest private art collections in the world.
But all is not what it seems. Bouvier is accused of cheating Rybolovlev of over a billion dollars, while Rybolovlev has been peddling with governments and the threat of the most expensive divorce in history. An all-out war explodes between the two men, involving corruption attempts, smear campaigns and ultimately ends in a mediatised court case in New York City threatening Sotheby’s, one of the most heralded institutions of the art world.
