14 year-old Sid Bookman is caught between childhood and adolescence, navigating burgeoning sexual curiosity and a desperate desire for acceptance. Everything changes when her sister returns from university with Freya, a magnetic friend from America, whose attention awakens something Sid can’t yet name.
The debut feature from New Zealand writer-director Paloma Schneideman, Big Girls Don't Cry is a funny, frank and sometimes uncomfortable look at the business of growing up.
Schneideman was personally selected and mentored by Jane Campion who encouraged her to turn the project into a feature and went on to executive produce the film.
Noah Taylor, known for Shine, Almost Famous and Game of Thrones, brings his distinctive dry humour to Sid's father, Leo.
